So i took the plastics off my 70 shifter tonight. When i removed the side screws for the rear plastics gas started pouring out mostly from the left side. My cobra is almost brand spankin new and sure this is the first time removing the fenders. Wtf is this? Talk about poor quality. Any suggestions? I am afraid to over torque the wood screws and pull out more material and have a bigger leak. New tank in my future?

Yep mine was brand new too. I had to tighten between motos to keep from losing gas. Eventually got a new tank. Was told don't tighten much at all. I believe they are made by acerbis and that explaines alot.

I was thinking of trying a slightly larger screw for now but not sure it will work and dont want to make it worse. What about epoxy the holes closed? Anyone have any luck with that? Or any other trick i can do as a temporary fix? I dont have much time before our first race.

I just tightened it real snug and kept resnugging after every moto

Wrap the screw in teflon tape or teflon paste. You will have to install the screw before you put gas in the tank. The tape will also make it a tighter fit so it dose not back out while racing.

I will give it a try. Just very disappointed in the quality of the tank and design. Figured with such a high end machine you would not see this type of thing. If it does not work out I will be looking at a aluminum or steel tank and be done with it.

It will probably work but in school we were told never to use teflon with petroleum products.
