I was curious if anyone has done a Kawasaki Hybrid putting either a KX250 Tecate ATV Motor (not ATC or dirtbike motor) in a Honda TRX250R Chassis? Or either a KFX450R ATV motor in a Honda TRX250R Chassis? I was just curious if anyone had attempted this before, if so, feel free to post pics because I would like to see one done up. Thanks.

I had attempted doing a Tecate ATV motor in a 250R chassis as well as a KFX450 chassis, however 2 problems came about on both - 1. the pipe, there is limited numbers of pipes available and neither would fit in the frames in any way so a completely custom built pipe would be needed. 2. The part availability is pretty much non existent, so it would be pointless just to gain a few hp.

As far as putting a KFX450 motor in a 250R chassis - kinda pointless considering the KFX450 chassis is aluminum and fits perfectly and is based off a roll design frame.

Yea I was just thinking of that myself as far as the pipes go, as in needed custom pipes and yea your def right about parts for the Tecate because they did only make that particular bike for 2 years if im not mistaken.

Yea I had no idea that the KFX450R frame was based on a roll design frame, thats interesting.

Yea I just thought it would be kinda cool to do a Kawi 250R Hybrid of some sort, and I was def curious if someone out there had attempted it. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it, and if others have any input on the matter feel free post. Thanks.

Build what you think! Not what people want!

i'm working on putting a tecate 4 motor in a kfx450 frame. just waiting on my frame to come back from ilr performance. dave Roberts the owner I s moding the frame and modifying a pro circuit kx 250 pipe to work since I machined a kx250 crank to work in a tecate 4 cases so that the newer triple powervalve cylinders can be used. the cylinder is ported and bored out to a 301. I have all walsh components, fox shocks, hipers, and all lonestar hubs. it will be setup for mx. will start a thread with pics once I get the frame back.

Id like to take my kfx450 and put in a 2013 KX450F motor. But a tecate motor in one would be awesome to see.

Yea i dont have any plans on building a hybrid but I was just curious if anyone else is doing these. Sounds good on these upcoming builds, im interested in watching how they come along.

odly enough, tecate and trx250r motors are low in hp until they get signifigantly modded.

Tecate motors are the same wether they were for tecate 3 or tecate 4.

Your much better off using a newer 2 stroke dirt bike motor.

Example: A stock 250r motor has about 38hp, a stock 1998 cr250r motor has 45hp stock. They take a cr ignition and put it in a trx to give it extra hp, bottom line is the trx and tecate is outdated.

The nice thing about the old 2 strokes like the trx is you can make a saber motor or a puma motor with them, you cant really do that with newer 2 strokes.

Just my opinion.

Oh, and if you look through these threads there is my cr250 hybrid build, a rm250 hybrid build and a kx250 hybrid build.

tecate 3 and tecate 4 motors are totally different from each other. the t3 was a big bore short stroke with no counter balancer, where as the t4 was a longer stroke, smaller bore with a counter balancer. no parts were interchangeable. that's why I machined a crank from a 99 kx250 to work in the t4 cases so that I have a counterbalance and am able to drop the newer kx cylinder on the t4 cases to have the triple power valves. so its a 301 kx 250 with a counter balancer with a 6 speed tranny instead of the 5 of a dirt bike.

Sorry about the confusion.

Glad that you were able to clear that up for me.

Was there a difference in HP between t3 and t4 motors?

I don't know the difference in hp. I know the t4 was the fastest 250 from the factory at a hair under 75mph top speed. I would guess that the t3 might be faster being as it is lighter.
