I am doing a rebuild on my w-tec eraser eve -06 chassis. Some new powdercoat and some modifications to the frame. And a possible engine swap(wait and see). It has a gasgas ec300 engine right now.

It is a chromoly race chassis from the Netherlands. Very popular here in europe. Most of the riders in the european championship races w-tec or laeger chassis hybrids.

This thing is odd but straight bad. I guess there are 4 shocks on it? I see the one is bolted the left side of the swingarm. Id like to see one in person this thing is neat. Keep us up to date on it! I seen these before like said before in magazines but never paid any attention to them.

2 rear shocks. I'm not sure but I think it's something with keeping the weight of the swingarm down. It also has a hollow rear axel.

Got some things done today. New tie rod ends for the tie rods and tractions rods. And the spindles are ready for powder coat.

No footpegs yet. Have to contact ups....

How do they handle? I always figured they handle like crap.

ikas
04-26-2013, 01:41 AM
They are very light. With the engine i'm using its around 300lbs. Suspension soaks everything, they are easy to handle in the corners. Much better handling than my trx450r with long travel öhlins.

Kx500 engine on the way needs some work but got it dirt cheap.

The original idea was to buy a ktm500 or 540/550 engine and use that. But then I got a deal on this kx500. I have seen a few with ktm and cr engines but none with the kx500.

I like how you can get more mass centralization and less weight by the trailing arm design but I don't like how they travel into a bump

They soak bumps better then any bike I have ever tested :) The orginal design was intented for sand endurance races like Le Touquet and the sandtracks in the Netherlands.
Heres a video of Mike van Grinsven one of the w-tec factory racers from the netherlands.

Could not find a w-tec video from Le touquet but here is a little video to show the ruts.

And one with Jan Vlaeymans with some from Loon plage were the Le touquet is held.

Very interesting design indeed and I look forward to seeing this done. I'm guessing not many use those quads in the woods, could you imagine clipping a tree :huh

As of now this is how the engine build will look like.
New nikasil for the cylinder.
Clean up porting for the cylinder.
A wössner piston.
Vasrah rod.
Vforce3 reed valve.
New head.
PVL analog ignition
New fibers, steels and springs for the clutch.
New transmission outputshaft.
New bearings, oil seals and gaskets.
And then it will be glass blasted and I will use some clearcoat.

Progress is slow. Been deep into studies (electrician). Will get more done later this week when I will split the cases and see how everything looks. Will also start modify the foot pegs.

I don't think there is any of the newer models in the us. But the older models i know there is some with ktm 520 engines.

That ball bearing probably came out of the main shaft its for the clutch rod and outer basket I would imagine..

It was a lose ball bearing from another bearing that the seller thought was from this engine.

Been looking through the options on mounts and I will be using carbonfibre for the engine mounts as it may reduce some of the vibrations from the kx500 engine.

Heres the decompression valve from a husqvarna chainsaw I will mount to the head hopefully it will be as easy to start as a 125 or 250.

Can you post a bigger picture of that? If I end up bumping compression on my 500 to 200 psi I might need something like that.

The valve is the same type that most engine builders use for there decomp valves. The service honda/kawasaki use a same type of valve.

Here is one mounted to a head.

Ikas, where are you purchasing the parts for the frame? I have an original model and am in need of ball ends and such. I absolutely love the way it handles in the sand. It is especially good over whoops. Mine has a KTM 570 with oversized valves.

Here is a picture of mine.

Thanks, Mike
