so instead of just posting at the end of an old thread and having no one look at it, i figured it would be more beneficial for everyone if i started a new thread to show some pics of how my GT Thunder 400ex swing arm skid plate mounted up

jsq1 had requested to see pics of this back awhile ago on this thread

http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=499981

its taken me awhile, but i finally got it mounted up on the swing arm. i used the stock bolts that come with the swing arm because they were used on my monstrous "no ground clearance" skid that came on the quad when i bought it.

its very tight to the swinger, rotor, and sprocket/chain like i had wanted, but almost two tight (im using stock ratio sprockets). to give a little extra space, i put three M8 washers between the skid and each tapped hole in the swinger. any who, here goes..

I riveted a piece of polyurethane plastic to use as a chain slider, got it from mcmaster-carr

As for clearance issues, with my 36T rear I found if I used some 1/4 (think or maybe 5/16) nuts as spacers it worked great. I also used grade 8 buttonhead allens for bolts.

ya im gonna have to do somethign about a chain slider marc. my old skid had a polyurethane slider on it that bolted on. that has worn down enough, that it may be the right thickness to put on there. we'll see what happens. i can believe how much ground clearance this thing gives to the swing arm compared to what i had on there

i should of taken a picture of what the bike came with. hind sights 20/20

I hear ya ben, I loved it for how much ground clearance it has. Im debating on how I want to setup my 450 b/c they make a skid for it but it only covers the lower part of the swing vs the full length this one does.

I did the same as Marc except I had to use longer spacers since I flipped my carrier because of the weird problem I had with the XC link. I also used a T.M. Designworks universal chain slider on the front of the skid to keep the slapping away, works pretty good. I guess or alittle update I have been running those spacers since I put that skid on and still haven't had any issues with them. Haven't snapped a mount off or anything.

i love the link with my revalved/resprung shock. it litterally floats over everything compared to how it used to just buck me around like a rodeo bull. its awesome.

i seriously recomend it for anyone who wants to correct the bukcing and a seriously better ride on their 400
