I've got an '07 Silverado 1500 right now that I love, but its just too nice for me. I need something I treat like a truck and not be afraid to put miles on. I've been looking at some 2500hd's with both the 6.0l vortec and the 6.6l duramax they all have close to 200,000 miles on them and seem to be right up my price range which is maxed at 14,000. Just looking for some opinions... As to get an older 1500 that I can play around with or get something alittle bigger that can tow more. I don't a trailer in KS with me at the moment, but i'll buy one in the years to come to do all my playing around with. What do ya'll think???

The only 3/4 ton gasser ive drove was a crew cab f250 with a 5.4, it felt really sluggish, and IMO was too much truck for the motor it had. Personally I wouldn't have anything but a diesel in a 3/4 ton, but they really aren't needed unless your towing larger loads. I would look around if you wanna go the gasser route, you can find them with quite a bit lower mileage around here for 14k . The big block chevy motors do drink the gas though. No way would I spend 14k and a used gasser with 200k. Not trying to tell you what to do though its your $$$

I bought a 2008 2500hd last year. Crew cab loaded truck other than navigation and leather. It had 130k on it and I gave 14,200 For it. Ppl are scared to death of a gasses after it hits 100k so they can be bought cheap. Ppl don't realize that with modern machining miles on the mechanical part of any engine don't matter anymore if you keep clean oil in your motor. I change my oil every 7500 miles like my book says and It comes out brown just like it went in. I know of several 6.0 Chevy within 5 miles of me with over 250k on them. 9 times out of 10 now a days a trucks life will end due to an electrical or chassis issue before the motor quits. In fact a buddy just took a 99 Chevy 1500 5.3 to the scrap yard about 2 months ago. 326,000. Motor sounded great but the frame rusted in 2

Id say you should keep your truck and just buy an old 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck, ford or chevy and be happy. beat it silly and not worry what it looks like so long as it drives.

Did some looking tonight, and thats the route i'm gonna go. Insurance is literally 25 dollars a month for a 79 Chevy 3/4 ton. Already found the one I want.

personally i would go the 6.0 gas route.. i was debating on that for a while when i bought my truck. for me to justify buying a duramax, i would have to pull a trailer everywhere i go. it just takes alot of miles to pay for a duramax when you figure in spending another 5 or so thousand to get a decent diesel. i like my 6.0, its all the power i need out of it, and i get about 12 mpg

i think the cost per mile between the gas and diesel would be about the same, with the higher efficiency of the diesel but also the higher cost.

the diesel is still a sweet motor, so if you do choose to go the diesel route, i would go for the LLY as opposed to the LB7, as the LB7 is known for their injector failure, which is a very costly fix. sorry, just my opinion

Look on CL or local for an old 1 ton military or fire/rescue truck. They have the 14bolt rear/60 front and somtimes locker(s), Lower gearing etc.
Old trucks like that could have 500k, But every 10k it was taken apart and rebuilt. When trucks were still made of true metal and can take a thrashing.
