Going through the garage today cleaning up, happened to find a ex front brake resi. Said wth let me mess with it. First I started just doing the 4 sides, was going to have the rest powder coated, but said screw it and sanded and sanded and sanded LOL. Have about 7 hours in it, but damn it is purdy. Matches the rest of the controls I polished when I put the bike back together.. Waiting to get some powdered front spindles, billet front hubs. Really debating on whether or not to race cut.. Any here are a few pics.

LOL, thanks guys for the comps. I have no problem doing some polishing for ya, but it isn't gona be tooo cheap. Lots of time in this crap, thats no BS. Seen some parts on ebay and craigslist that people say is extremely nice, that have been sold for alot of money. Not tooting my own horn but mine looks nicer. Naturally it is not possibly to get in every nook because I do not have a tumbler yet( soon I hope) but I get the stuff nice. LOL Thanks again

Looks awesome. I know that this is long and a pita, but how exactly did you do it? I'd like to try it.. I am running out of things to do! Lol

You have WAY to much time on your hands man...

I like the polished look but after doing my AL wheels every 4-6mo Ive had enough-and hell they are already polished to start with!

Thanks man. I started using a small angle air grinder with the lightest grit pad I had (200) then after that was all finished, used a super fine file to file the flat areas to get them flat. Amazing how wavy the castings are. Then back over it with some wetsanding and 320. Next step it up to wetsanding and 600.. Some times 600-800 you can turn out a nice finish, but will have some deeper scratches that are still noticeable if you look for it( for most it would suit them fine, but I am out of that group, cuz I am a anal mofo) LOL I finished it up with a good 1500 overall sand, to knock the surface down just a little more. Remember the smoother the surface the easier it will buff to a shine. Like I said it is time consuming, I bet I have over 30 hours of polishing work in parts on my bike, but it is rewarding to show up places to ride, people are like '' your not getting that dirty are ya?"" Well hell yeh I am hahaha

Now if only I would win the stupid quad of the month this time around LOL..

Yeh I hear ya, it does def get annoying to do but is rewarding once it is done. Once it is done good the first time it is terrible to maintain, it is when ya let them really go it is a pita. Usually takes me about 2-3 beers to do it rite, hahaha

BTW I AM STARTING ON ANOTHER BRAKE RESI, POSSIBLY A SIDE COVER, IF ANY ONE IS INTERESTED.

I hear ya.

Can i send you my wheels lol! The salt and brake dust has murdered them!

LOL sure as long as they are not too too bad. Normally pits from the salt is so deep that even hard sanding will not bring them out, still have a porous finish. Thats one thing about ****ty cast vs a nice billet..

Heheh yea I wish they were billet, I think there cast.

I just ordered this polish thats supposed to clean them really good. Gonna get me a small air polisher and go to down I think, cause by hand it sucks! Everything else I have tried with the exception of etching mag wheel cleaner takes forever to polish, and the etching cleaner works werll but you still need to polish when done-it leaves white spots.

I swear I get wheels like this agian either they are powdercoated black or I clearcoat them!

Yeh, my best advice is ever before you use the polishing juice is clean them good with 1500 sand paper, a light scrub with a FINE sos pad. The polish it self will not clean the oxidation off, you will find it even harder and longer to polish out then if you wet sand/Sos them.

Yea Im not sure exactly what Im gonna do. I got this stuff called Gords which is supposed to do a really nice job cleaningoff corrosion and polishing them. BUT I think I need to do 1500 grit or fine scotchbrite pad first.

I really need to use a drill or something, otherwise its gonna take a LONG time. Curse me for getting the 12 hole wheels!

I might grab something like this and use thier compounds one one wheel to try: http://www.harborfreight.com/14-piece-aluminum-polishing-kit-98707.html
