Just installed the 440 kit. As soon as I start it up, it smokes white for about 2-3 minutes then clears up and doesn't do it again. My first thought was valve seals but I just replaced them.

Any thoughts fellas?
Thanks.

If it is fresh it is more then likely the rings, not being totally seated yet. Shouldn't be anything to worry about

Yeah motor only has about 4 hours since the build.

Thanks.

Did you properly break it in?

IE: let warm up for about 10 mins then ride it like you stole it? Otherwise rings arent seated and you can tear it all apart again and put new rings in.

Or your valve seals are bad, but the smoke on startup woulda been there before rebuild.

Also, you did jet it right?

I did three heat cycles, each for about 20 minutes. Not riding like a girl, but not givin it he11 either. During the build, valve seals were replaced. And the jetting is only off a hair, puffin a little black smoke when cold.

Keep in mind a 440 generally needs a 190 main jet and a 42 pilot for a stock carb.

A 450r carb usually is the same except for a 50 pilot.

Mine uses a 220 main jet and a 50pilot with a 450r carb and a stock carb was 210/42.

Atleast your up and running with a fresh 440:D

Haha I hear ya man. Another question for ya. I got a very small and slow oil leak where the cylinder goes on the bottom end. I don't wanna rip everything apart again lol. Is there a way I can stop it, but not take it apart again? Probably a dumb question.

Thanks.

Nope, sadly the only right way to do it is replace the gasket.

What kinda gaskets did you use?

CJM- the ones that came with the kit.

Kidz- yeah it's such a small leak, I wasn't gonna worry about it. It just bothers me knowing my quad is leaking oil lol.

I know this wouldn't be the right way to do things, but I wonder if I could rip the new gasket, and apply a heavy layer of the silicone sealer stuff to seal it back. Sounds to risky to me....

Cheap gaskets. Reason I throw that junk away and buy cometic brand MLS (rubber coated metal) only.

Possible. Could also be slightly warped stuff or maybe you didnt get enough of the old gasket off.

I actually scrape mine off, then sand with 400 grit to make sure then carb clean off.
