I wanted to ask to get some advice on a Hinson Clutch Case Side Cover. Is there a difference between the 86/87 Hinson covers compared to the 88/89 Hinson Covers? I bought a Hinson Side Case Clutch cover (Side case w/ cover) from a member on here a couple years back, but just curious what the difference is between them, because I am not sure which one I have. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

yes, there is. The kicker shaft is different. Most of the hinson covers are 88/89, if you have a 88/89 cover and use it on a 85-87 motor, you need a spacer to fill in the extra room. Post a pic of this cover, inside the cover and it is easy to tell if if 85-87 or 88/89. I had a 88/89 motor and only had a 85-87 cover, I got the spacer that hinson provides(from a friend) to make everything work. Esr covers fit 85-89, they provide a spacer if you use it on a 88/89 motor. Maybe call them as to get the spacer to make it work.

Thanks deathman I appreciate the info. I figured out I have an 88 hinson clutch cover side case because I bought one from a fellow member on here, and he said his was an 88 motor, with that being said, I just need to make sure that the cover (Billet piece that has Hinson logo on it) not the case, is capatable to run 8 plates. Btw, this clutch side case and cover will be going on an 88 motor. Thanks for info.

if you don't have the clearance for 8 plates,,, run Neil's (Cleigh racing) clutch mod, using cr500 springs with an extra drain plug washer under each bolt, and replace one steel plate with a 400ex plate

I have found out I can run 8 plates with this Clutch Cover, but I need to know what exactly is this 89 clutch upgrade kit and what clutch parts are still available from Hinson? I do know Inner hub has been discontunued, but are there any other parts I should be aware of that Hinson does not make and what is all the parts needed to do an 89 clutch upgrade? I have a stock 88 oem motor, thanks.
