I am thinking about shaving my fenders. I want to see what designs are out there. Also please post the most effective way to shave them. God Bless! :)

The best thing for cutting plastic is a 4in grinder with a metal cut off wheel.

I will stand by that till I die...lol.

It sands, it cuts smooth, it cuts straight, its fast, after marking it out i was done 5 mins later.

I actually just last night, cut cr250r fenders with a butterknife, yes a butterknife....lol.

Anyway, I custom fit a whole cr250 side and rear plastic to fit a cr80r. looks good!

I dont reccommend a butterknife for cutting plastics "EVER"...lol.

Okay thanks. I will look into this procedure when I get all my stuff gathered up to put on. I am doing a complete restoration. I have it stripped down to the frame right now. Prepping it for powder coating.

Check it out.

Mark off were you want to cut, its best if the fenders are mounted on the atv.

Once its marked out, try all the different methods for cutting on the excess pieces your cutting off away from your marks.

That way you can find what works best for you without ruining your lines the first try.

Right. I will do that. I am going to practice on my old set of fenders first so no big mistakes are made on the new ones.

It is ironic to me with these shaved fenders threads recently because I am planning on how to add fender extensions to my "race cut" 250R fenders. So I am looking to do the opposite lol but now that I am older and all I do is trail ride and want some splash protection.

Johndoe gave some good advice and what I have done is after marking it out I tape off the line with masking tape to protect the "good" edge from scratches while cutting. And a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade works great, just go slow and be patient.

I love the way the race cut looks. Even if it means getting more dirty while riding. I will apply all of the advice. Thanks again!

I'm with JohnDoe, the 4" cutoff wheel works great but wear safety glasses because it will shoot small pieces of plastic everywhere. My garage is still covered in yellow dust from cutting a set of spare plastics I had laying around.

Sounds like there are a lot of ways to go about this. I may try a few different ways and see what works best.

Here's my front and rear ones. Makes the quad look a lot faster with the rear trimmed. I love how I cut them. Use elec tape to mark your lines.
