Question about pilot jet

I have been researching and it seems that the 42 pilot jet is the way to go for the stubborn 400ex, so thats what i went with installed it and everything but i have one issue. the bike runs oerfect with choke on but when i turn it out it dies down. Any idea as to what could cause that? thanks!

It sounds like it's in a lean condition. I would take the pilot out and make sure it's clean. A clogged pilot would mean less fuel is being delivered, hence the better running when on the choke (more fuel). If you had the carb off the bike to change the jet, check the air box boot, and the boot between the carb and head to make sure they are seated correctly. You may have an air leak somewhere.
