Anyone still desert race the 250r? If so, how does it do against the thumpers?

No.

Honda no longer offers any contingency money or prizes for the 250r since its so long out of production.

Four strokes are so in vogue at the moment that any technological break throughs will have to be earth shattering to turn back the tide.

The 250r is competitive against 4 strokes when in the right hands...

Other then the Roll Troy posted above, I haven't seen a 250R at a BITD or heard of one at a SCORE race in the 7 or so years I have been racing a quad in the desert. I know someone who is currently racing one in District 37. I used to see a couple in a local series when I first started racing, but even those I haven't seen in a few years. I am planning on racing mine at at least one round of the local night race series, will be the first time my 250R as raced in a while.

I love my 250R, but my four storkes are so much easier to ride in the desert its not even funny. If I was only racing a 30 or so mile, twisty and tight race, I think I would be faster on my 250R. I wouldn't even consider a 250R for a long race. (100 miles or more) Take that back, I would consider one if I just wanted to race for fun and finish, but I want to win, so the 250R would stay home and the four stroke would get the nod.

As Dezsled stated, a 250R could be competive in the right hands, but I still don't think you will see one show up at the Baja 1000 and take the quad overall ever again. The only way you will see a two stroke win the overall at a major desert race anytime in the future is if a manufactuer comes out with a new model.

I think I'm gonna run my r, not running the pro class to win. Just having fun and a 250r is the most fun to ride for me

You will be fine racing your 250R, as long as it is setup for racing. (If it is bone stock, you are probably going to be at a little bit of a disadvantage.) As I said, they are competive, I myself am not competive on one. Sign up and have a good time, I bet you will beat some of those four strokes!

I race a 250r in the D22 MX series in the A class. I also run a 250r in the A class for harescrambles all over Iowa/Illinois.

Finished 2nd in the stat last season on my 250r in the Open A. Hope to win it this year.
