Only after 4 rides, this 70$ rear aluminum renthal sprocket shattered. FYI, get a sunstar, sidewinder, or steel rear.

I had a rental aluminuim on my old warrrior and it started to brake into pieces, by the time I got home I had 1/4 of the rear sprocket and to boot, I couldn't ride the trails(too many hills), so I rode slow down the road and got pulled over. The cop looked at it and let me go. I put on a extra stock sprocket that I got for $4. After that its the last time I will buy alumium sprockets, they are junk.

What is the purpose of aluminum sprockets, other than to save a few ounces?

That's all they are for is to save weight. Next time buy a steel one.

well supposedly, running a steel rear sprocket is like running a flywheel weight. They claim u will have snappier power with an aluminum rear sprocket, thats why alot of MX guys run them. Plus they think it helps with weight:rolleyes:

WOW.... I am honestly surprised to hear this!

I don't do MX, but for several years, the aluminum rear sprocket on my 300ex gave me no trouble, and now for about 7 months, my Renthal aluminum rear has no signs of failing on my 416.

Thanks for your thread. I have never heard of an aluminum sprocket shatter... And it happens to be a Renthal?!!

Please let us know if you hear anything back from Renthal.

BTW... I had a stainless Sidewinder rear sprocket that broke and had several stress cracks in a 4 month period on a stock 400.:grr

Again, thanks Mxbubs for your thread... Best wishes on your new sprocket!

I had a bud that warned me not to buy it because his blew up.

Spoke to Renthal today, they said send it back and they would send me another. I told them I wanted a cheaper steel one, they said okay.

Suprised me.:D

make sure ( unless your sprockets are new) you replace them when you do your chain

Entire setup has only 4 rides on it! Renthal is not good aluminum sprocket makers.
