View Full Version : 400EX Weird Clutch problem?? HELP!

Hello I have a weird problem with my 2001 EX, Sometime I ride it and it goes very well no clutch slippage, And sometime I ride it and my clutch slip ALOT, Like I can go for a ride it goes good and I turn it off to take a break and when I go back to riding it slip, What could cause this?

1. No clutch lever free play
2. Clutch lifter sticking
3. Worn clutch discs or weak springs
4. Oil additive used

some ideals to check....usually when mine starts to slip its usually time for a new clutch cable....

I'd say:
#1: drain / change the oil use the correct type, not synthetic!
#2: pull the clutch plates and check them for wear, replace if necessary.
#3: adjust the clutch cable tension properly!

Just for fun, pull off the clutch cable, spray contact cleaner through it to clean it, then lube it! Will feel like "butter smooth"!

The clutch cable could be dry or burnt causing it to stick. If that doesnt work more than likely your clutch is shot or clutch springs are loosing there pressure.
