well guys after being quadless for a year im looking for another one. 400ex's are decently common in my area (NEPA) and im thinking about picking up one. ive seen 00-04's from $1200 to $2500 but nothing worth buying. my question to you guys is are their any common issues i should look for in a 400ex?
any help will be greatly appreciated

Some people have issues with headstuds pulling eventually, but that's usually with a higher compression piston, and its fixed with a $65 stud kit. Other than that there aren't many issues other than the frames cracking near the shock mounts and a few other places after hard MX riding.

as long as everything is there, the brakes work and have pad left, the headlight works, theres no smoke and no loud noises other then a slight tick and theres some type of paper work.

its worth atleast $1200.

parts are everywhere and cheap, I peiced together a whole 400ex from leftover parts, $300 in frames and a arms and $200 for a complete 450r swingarm.

Ask them the last time they had the swingarm bolt out and if they ever greased it. It's not a lot for the bolt but it's most aggravating and see how well it fires up and look around see if bearings are bad just when you go to buy one expect to spend a few hundred dollars to fix it up

thats sounds good guys ill keep an eye out for frame cracks in those areas, and keep the head stud problem in mind too. the swingarm bolt sounds like way too much fun, gotta love rust! ill keep that in mind too.
thanks guys
