BUilding a 250r based 90mod , anyone know for sure if 86 -87 trx250r stock throttle cable will work for this. Asking because my 87 250r throttle cable is to large a diameter at the carb cap for the cr85 carb, it wont slide into the adjuster on the top of the carb cap. Thanks...for any help?

use a throttle from a 400ex, or a 450r thats what i have on my sons Cobra/ CR85, but i also have them on my 250r, and my other sons raptor 250 all three threaded right in.. the cr 85 already had a cable on the bike when i bought it....hmmmmm

Well, the newer style throttles are easier to push, i will try to find out about the cable.

Thanks Logan #34, I used that part number and found them on motion pro website. I 'm sure the CanAm and the TRX250r are similair in length. Hoping that will be my last OBSTACLE with this project. Well I still have to fab up my kick starter.

Do you need it extended out away from the engine so it misses the frame?
I'm having a couple made for our Supermini and as an extra. Need one?

I have three stock kickers. I have seen them modded by cutting the connector from end of kick starter, then welding a length of round stock to that, and then the kick starter to the end of round stock. Sound like what you have? If so how far are they moved out from original ?

That's exactly what my current one is and what I'm having reproduced. Not sure on length...if i had to guess, 2 1/2 inches maybe...

They are not hard to make. I had one made last year when I was out of town. Guy used octagon stock. Looked cool but was heavy.
I just made one Sunday out of 7/8 .085 wall chromoly tubing. If you go this route it needs to be TIG welded. If you can't do it yourself you can fab it and any welding shop can weld it up in a few minutes.
What I did was cut the part that goes on the motor shaft and welded it to the end of the tubing. I also used a cut off wheel and sliced the tubing long ways so it will have some give when it is tightened down. This was a issue with the solid stock. I then notched the other end and recessed the the kicker into the tubing. After that I welded a little piece of 1/8" plate over the hole on the kicker end. (Recessing the kicker doesn't cover the whole end of the tubing.) this also gives you a little more meat to weld to.
It's not really as hard as it sounds. I can text some pictures if needed. Brian 618-975-7303

Been few days, working 12 hours shifts midnights will do that..Work ....Sleep...repeat....

I ordered two cables from motion pro part# 01-0604. Let you know how that goes.

And as far as the kickers, I have 3 factory ones, so I will try to fab one if dosent work then I'll get with you Logan#34.

I also like the idea of notching the end of the extinsion pipe, Wouldn't have thought of that, and then I can just use heavy washer to weld in the end. Thanks for all the help. Biggdaddy

The only reason I thought of it because the solid stock one fell off and I had to go hunt the track for it! Lol
If you don't want to buy a piece of chromoly I'm sure a 3/4" sch 40 carbon steel nipple from the hardware store would work fine. Just don't buy a galvanized one. Going this route you can mig or stick weld it. Either way just becareful how hot you get it. The knurls inside the kicker are hardend. You get it to hot they get soft and strip out. Good luck
