Blaster questions

I'm looking at buy a 1996 blaster but it needs a lot of work. I just had a fee questions, what year did they switch to disc brakes and is it a easy swap to change to the disc? And I'm sure this question is up for debate but what's a good oil that's not going to brake the bank? I thanks any help would be great.

2003-2006 models had the disk brakes. This is a fairly expensive option to buy for the front, however you can make rear hydraulic brakes work off just about any other quad with a little fabrication and welding.
