Here is my CRF/LTR hybrid build, i built this on another forum and i am just taking the posts that deal with building this. Many of the posts may be directed at people but you get the idea.

http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/107e752d.jpg

Step one: Cut off original rear shock mount.
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/92f6bc1e.jpg
Step two: Clean up crappy cut.

http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/bd919871.jpg

Step 3: Cut off old front motor mount tab's and clean up.

http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/36290aaf.jpg
Step 4: Make new rear shock mounting bracket
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/feabb43f.jpg
Step 5; Cut 3/4" pipe to length.
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/093382d0.jpg

Trail riding and maybe a few hare scrambles.

Made a little more progress.

Step 6: Modify coolant return to point towards intake on LTR450 radiator.
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/8347FD9F-1982-4B89-AB8B-63EA6A38D78B-28106-00002498DDEED0FF.jpg

Step 7: Fab up lower motor mount.
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/5972799E-4957-4A3A-B2D3-C46D0EC39BCC-1079-00000188EE61D067.jpg

Finalized rear shock mount in comparison to the stock one.
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/0ED7BBDA-C725-4A8C-82C9-B3F8F97370FE-1079-00000188E9AFFB63.jpg

Quick shout out to Ray for getting me the other parts I needed!
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/3DD8738F-36C8-4582-A35B-F5539D8671DD-1079-00000188E44A3D94.jpg

Step 8: Modify front motor mounts and drill and tap for bottom hole since they don't line up anymore.

I'm going to cut two bolts and fit them in to the existing bottom holes for rigidity since the new hole is fairly close to the old one.

http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/3CE73296-9CAC-4E4A-9503-EABAE45C53F1-3260-000004B400608AEF.jpg
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/3F083F24-84D0-4E65-B067-23C74FFAE247-3260-000004B405CA5BAA.jpg

Fairly simple so far, the harder parts will be the exhaust from the Crf to the LTR exhaust pipe, and the intake. Other than that the sprockets will ony be about an 1/8" side to side difference and the swing arm bushing can be shaved a little. The kicker situation also has me wondering because I don't know if I can get a hold of an extension or if I have to make one.

Step 9: You're not making a headstay until you're bleeding.
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/CA40DF09-0002-4A09-B017-7A363E76302D-7693-000009AF779D78A1.jpg

Step 10: Mark out kicker area needed to be removed.
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/EC0C3C1A-F835-4E76-BD82-4D190F38283F-9681-00000CBEDDC0B0F7.jpg
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/BA7C33B0-A76A-467A-9F38-2C059155A3D9-9681-00000CBEE8CB9EE6.jpg
Step 11: Bend 1" x 1/4" steel and bevel edges to fit into the frame.
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/8DDEC874-2015-4BDC-9334-1F0462ACB8E0-9681-00000CBEED65F001.jpg

I was grinding on the frame for about 5 mins, randomly look to me left and a garter snake was staring right at me. Scared the crap out of me and he took off under the cupboards.
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/C34F1FA1-5FAF-4318-91B9-6E217E0FE100-9681-00000CBEE36E240F.jpg
Caught him finally!

There won't be one until the build is almost complete, the kicker, exhaust, and the intake are the parts I'm making.

Step 12: Shave 1/8" off left side swing arm bushing and on the right I made a spacer where the swing arm doesn't cover out of an old bushing.

http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd439/TuckerHardRide/5B19B034-772D-44EF-B4C6-3B42C4D62E26-17396-0000174A62BE96F7.jpg

I don't have a roller till its painted and the rear shock mount gets welded, I have all the parts though!

New parts in!

The header is a 2003 CRF450 header, the OD of the pipe is 1-5/8" which was the size of most aftermarket pipes but upon getting the pipe there is a sleeve on the end and it is only 1-1/2". I'm debating weather to buy an aftermarket one.

What i am trying to get out of this build is pretty much a custom quad fully gone through by me and hand pick every part i ever wanted for a quad. Don't get me wrong i love my LTR and fuel injection is insane. I feel a little better with this motor because it is simpler and less wires going all round it. Electrical issues which i have none on my LTR so far i haven't had, but i like having almost no electronics. Parts are cheaper for Honda motors than Suzuki motors. I love the look of the LTR as well. This will also cut down for the need for a battery tender in the winter since their is not battery. It will also be a lighter quad. No need for a $300 fuel programmer (just $3 jets). I like to be different. :]

Step 16: Weld bracing in kicker area.

Frame is done at the powder-coater and i'll be picking it up tomorrow, well today considering its 12:07 A.M.

Made an interesting discover, the one that looks lighter is actually heavier.

Made a lot of progress on the LTR tonight converting it back to stock and taking all the parts that will be used on the hybrid off.

Thanks to Tyler helping me tear it all apart, still need to put the rear end of it back together and the other half of the nerfs.

It's sad to see my LTR looking like this but basically everything has been taken off that i will be using for the CRF/LTR. Looks just like it did when i bought it. Anyone want to buy a 06 LTR?

Now this is a rear shock mount! Exact same mounting location as stock. Swing-arm also fits perfectly with the spacer I made. About two chain links will have to be taken out for the proper length for the CRF motor since the sprocket location is a little farther back.

She's a roller but the front a arms will be switched back over to my Fuel ATV arms with all brand new hardware.

-Should I powder coat just the top a arms or the lowers or both?

I routed the cables for the throttle, lubed them up a little, installed the clutch lever with the cable (pulls real nice).

Ordered a TRX water pump cover, Lance if your reading this what might i have to do to modify the cover to make it work? Plug the top line output? One more question is do you know if I have to run the coolant overflow bottle?

Ordered another sprocket so that i can get it welded to the other sprocket for the extension.

I sent pictures to the people who made the header about it not working with the coolant return line and i'm probably going to order up some exhaust wrap and a 45 deg. bend 3" aluminum pipe so that i don't have to worry about rust and metal flakes getting sucked into my engine. I will also probably order exhaust wrap for when the exhaust is complete.

Also contemplating extending the wires for the ignition coil so i can put all the electronics in one location.

Little progress tonight, capped off one of the outlets for the IMS tank.

Thanks Lance for the tips i started off by dremeling in some spots for the JB Weld to bond and started working on that today. The problem i was having was the epoxy kept trying to go to the center so i would have to pull it back up and it was a pain. so i taped it tot he sides and i will pull the tape and dremel it clean tomorrow hopefully.

Zook ill be using he stock air box that I cleaned up and took some plastic off, for the filter I have two choices a shorter UNI filter or a long UNI filter that hits the back of the Airbox, I might save the longer one for use with an aluminum splash guard that I may make in the future.

New spacers for the a arms and some engine ice.

One for 13t and one for a 14t sprocket. I have two primary drive sprockets on order.

Well the filter is actually closer to 4" in diameter because of the foam extending past where it clamps on so lets say 4" x 6" has 100.531 ^2 inches of total surface area and the 4" x 4" filter has 75.3982^2 inches of total surface area. We have to subtract the area of the opening of the filter which will be 12.5664^2 inches of surface area. Down to 87.9646" for the 4" x 6" filter and 62.838^2 for the 4" x 4" filter. We then have to subtract another area of the 2" radius circle to get the part where it is backed up against the back of the air box which leaves us with 75.3982^2 inches total for the larger air filter. I will have to calculate the sliver of air filter that is also crunched on the side which is caused by the slant of the airbox but given that there is a 12.5602^2 inches of space extra with the large filter i will end up using the larger filter anyway and probably just use the other filter for when i and cleaning the other one.

Here's a neat crown one i made.

I just looked at what i bought and it is a 25' roll of 1", i was just going to do the header when it is finished.

What side exhaust did you use? 04-05 TRX450 one? I was contemplating doing a side for an easier hook up but.. It's an LTR :] That must be a huge K&N then. What exhaust were you using when it melted?

Put fuel in it, carb is leaking.

-Swapped the fuel inlet with another carb i had around and it helped a little, still leaking though. (Any ideas, near the bottom of the bowl)

Swirl filter leaks a little.

-Took it apart and some nasty crud in there, i ordered a new filter already.

Today progress was:

Pull carb out and i ordered a rebuild kit for it (gaskets and such). (Honda CRF450R 02-04 Carb Rebuild Kit Repair CRF450 CRF 450R | eBay)

Pull apart swirl filter and try to get it to seal but it wouldn't so i bought some RTV blue gasket maker and im going to use that to help seal it once i get the new filter here.

Just ordered some pegs for it (SUZUKI LTR450R FOOT PEGS MONSTER PEGS LTR 450 LTR450 450R NO RESERVE | eBay)

I have a bid in for a TRX thumber, and just purchased a +2 throttle cable.
(Steel Braided Thumb Throttle Cable Honda TRX450R 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 450R | eBay)

Got some new pegs today and an 07 TRX450 thumber. The thumber i may cut and JB weld an aluminum plate on it because right now where the electronic sensor would be fr the throttle is taking up to much room. I plan on taking off the section above the screwdriver.

First start of CRF/LTR Hybrid - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6oh8f3vFHM)

I ordered some new o rings for the carb fuel line, called up the guy who did my exhaust, and am waiting for the thumb throttle cable to get here. I would estimate about a week, or a few more days than that it will be all buttoned up.

As she sits right now, i will need to trim the gas tank line to the swirl because it's too long right now and it will kink if i don't. Also just picked up a CRF exhaust crush gasket to see if it will help with sealing the new pipe to it. Throttle cable also came in and it's hooked up right now, at a later date i will trim the throttle so i can run the Powermadds.

Does anyone know if a longer coil will affect spark?

I just checked valve clearances and they are in spec.
I'll pull the carb again and clean it out.

So the coil wasn't the problem.

Tried to do a little tuning today and having a hell of a time, talking to camaro i sent him a picture of the carb and he yells at me for installing the slide upside down :o. That would explain why i couldn't start it the other day. So i turned it the other way and i got it started. Here are some videos of me starting it and it running.

LTR/CRF Tuning - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u66zC2zIbM)
CRF/LTR Tuning - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbcwsJuKZT8)

Also when i had it running i noticed my water pump was leaking a little so i pulled that off so i could clean it and try the other gasket i had. This is how it turned out if anyone was wondering what it looked like.

Found out the weep hole under the water pump cover is leaking, that means that the water pump is on it's way out. Bought a rebuild kit for it.

Took it out on the road today just trying to tun it a little, hard to get it to idle... ordered some jets from Jetsrus and turns out they send me one wrong jet. So I am just hoping all i need is the 45 pilot and not the 48, turns out after taking down the road i defiantly need a 48. Well i email Jetsrus and they ask me for a picture of the wrong jet and i send it so then they tell me just follow the procedure and RMA it. I'm kinda ticked though, why should i have to send a $4.46 jet back when they messed up and they can just go sorry and send me a new one. It's going to take 2 weeks to send it and get a new one and the gas just to drive the dang thing to the post office is going to cost more.

PS. First gear is mad long, it's like first and second in one.

40t sprocket turn out I can't run it with this length chain since it will be too big. Just a FYI this is the same sprocket used on the 09-12 ltz400's.

Wanted some more flow from the tank so I added some holes. Not really, turns out I pulled it off to do some carb work and I noticed a puddle starting underneath the tank. Emailed IMS and their going to be sending a new tank to me soon, they just had to make sure I destroy this tank first. I'm glad I put them on my graphics kit and I fully support their company!
