ive got a 400ex with 416 piston installed with dyno jet kit...now the problem i have is i have the idle speed screw all the way up and cant get any adjustment out of it my idle is to low and i need it to go up...so my question is , is there something that might be internally wrong in the carb

Take off the side cover, note that the idle screw is attached to a cable that runs into the housing and the more you tighten it the more it moves the butterfly.

Had the same issue where no amount of turning adjusted it. Turned out its nothing more than a wire with a screw on the end. Wire busted, new ones like 20 bucks.

I bet the tab that the idle adjuster rests against for adjusting is broke off. I have seen it on more than one ex carb.

its like the cable isnt long enough cause i have a little adjusment but i can get my idle up high enough to stay running when cold

Naw then it wouldn't idle at all.
