This project is no where near from done. You see I live in Pa but the buggy is in SC at my grandfather's farm there is a lot of room to ride it there and no where up in pa. the only time I have to work on it or to ride it is in the summer that's why I want the wheels and tires. I also want to put new shocks on it. Hopfully this will get the rear out of the dirt so bad. Anymore sugestions?

What size motor does it have in it?

I built this buggy last summer from a 68 bug. It has a 1500cc engine in it, I think a whaping 53 horses stock. I added a new header pipe, and hope to add bigger pistons this summer(87mm) and a new cam.

Go with 90.5mm pistons to make it a 1776 and you will be much happier than 1641. Trust me;) .

If I go with the 90.5mm pistons will that mean I have to match the heads, or match the crank case? And if I went with those pistons what cam would you recomend? And also I've been warned not to go too crazy on an engine rebuild without puting in a new tranny ? true?

You are going to have to bore the cases and the head for 90.5's to fit. I run an Engle 110 cam. You're stock tranny will be ok for anything but serious abuse. You'll be suprised how tought they are.;) I would also look into a set of heads they make a world of difference in a vw.

How much do you think all of this will cost me? I'm kind of on a budget. Being 16 trying to mantain a 79 el-camino to drive. What should I look for in a head? I've not really looked at them too much due to the cost. Yet I would like to eventully do all of these things to the buggy.

Well you are looking at about $175 for the piston's and cylinders. The heads are where the money is. Yoy can proabably just get by with a set of 041 heads with a little port and polish job.

atvmxrider, thanks a lot for all your sugestions it's a real big help, at least a step in the right direction. Why don't you post some pics of your toys? I'm guessing you have a 400ex and a rail.

What do you think about coil over shocks? for the rear.
