I have my motor pretty much torn down. I was going to to a crank, piston, cam etc this year. I'm just wondering if the crank in there is any good? And what to look for if there on there way out. It says ( HP 5) on the connecting rod.

Just want to know if that part # falls under the failures.

if you already have it tore down then

IF and I do say IF
you can afford it defiantly put a new crank and bearings and seals then you wont have to wonder about it,

but if money is tight check for any bearing play and if NONE then throw it back in

I almost always replace its cheap insurance and piece of mind

I know from experience that 06-newer cranks can check out 100% perfect and in spec.... and fail within a few rides. If it has a lot of hours on it, replace it. Try to keep track of the time on the new one too. There's no set time for them to fail, but if it's been used for two or three hard seasons, then I'd feel much better with new stuff.
