I bought the bike used and have ridden it for about 6 months. I noticed some play in the carrier and wanted to replace the bearings. Well I got 2 large pipe wrenches and tried to remove the axle nut and I cant budge it. Is it reverse threads?

Yes, they are left hand threads.

I hate to be a pain but, when you are behind the bike looking at the axle. What piece is reverse thread. I sthe best method to use two pipe wrenches? My concern is I do not want to bend the axle. As for the nut and carrier. They are getting replaced.

if i remember right, you have to turn the outer nut counter clockwise while the other is the opposite. I put both of the wrenhces on so that i stood on one wrench and it turned the outer while the other whrench was on the inner and keep it from turning because the ground stopped it. Hope that helps, these things are confusing.

Thanks....I did not realize the outside piece was reverse threads. I have the service manual, but on this it is vague at best. Any tips on removing the swingarm bolt?

on a 300ex swingarm bolt, it seems to be easy, at least when i did mine, but my 400ex was a pain. Go to http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48006

Turn the big inner one down and turn it a ways in and then turn the big one in untill you see the clip and take the clip off and turn the outter one off and then it will slide off

A pipe wrench kicks butt. A little lock tight in the locking nut and I was back on the trail!:)
