Did plenty of searching on here but couldn't find a straight forward answer. I found a LSR 250R axle with hubs and want to put it on my 400. Can anyone tell me if the stock lock nut and carrier will accept the 250 axle or if I need to order the 250 nut (I know I should probably get an antifade nut anyways). Other than that everything should fit, right?

Here's my thread on this subject.

That LSR should work perfect. I didn't try the 400ex brake hub with a 250R axle, I will before I put it together.

I guess I'll try it with the stock lock nut and see how it goes. If something doesn't work that seems like the part to replace with a 250r nut.

The threaded sleeve for the 400ex locknut is shorter than the 250r one. So you need the 250r locknut with threaded sleeve. We even tried a 250r antifade and it will didn't work. We have the stock 250r locknut and it worked fine. Also the 400ex wheel hubs won't work on the 250r axle. You need 250r ones. That's all I can remember lol

Thanks, I guess a stock 250r locknut is on the list to get ordered while I wait for the axle to show up.

I just tried every option of locknut i had. Heres what i found. I have a stock 250R locknut, a 250R Durablue anti-fade setup, a newer 250r Durablue posi-lock nut, an old 250r Durablue posi-lock nut, and a stock EX locknut.

I have a 250R Durablue axle, eliminator i believe. All 250R locknuts work on the 250R durablue axle with EX carrier and EX brake hub/rotor. That includes the Durablue anti-fade setup. As pictured in my thread, the anti-fade setup is close to the snap ring even when turned all the way in, but usable. The EX locknut is at its last threads on the threaded sleeve. I wouldnt run it like this....but i had a snap ring collar from an 85 ATC250R that goes between the snap ring and the threaded sleeve (not sure why right now). If you put that after the EX locknut (just as it is intended on the 85 ATC250R), it will work.

I then put the stock 250r brake hub/rotor on the 250r Durablue axle. Same results as the EX brake hub/rotor above.

On a stock EX axle, with stock EX carrier and stock EX hub/rotor. All the 250r locknuts didnt work. The stock 250r locknut was close, mine is all jacked up so i couldnt actually mount it up, i had to overlay the 2 pieces to get an idea. Pretty sure it wouldnt work. It is too long.

On a stock EX axle, with stock EX carrier and stock 250r hub/rotor. Again, all the 250r locknuts didnt work. Stock EX locknut worked.

So im not sure how different a LSR and others axle is but this is my finding with a Durablue.

I am going to pull the stock carrier and swap in a double row 250r carrier and check all the same. And for overall fit in the EX swingarm. I will post back in a few minutes.

Now for the 250r carrier. The carrier is a LSR from 1999. Double row.

All looked to fit perfect. No shims needed. But i didnt put a chain on it. Eyeing it, it looked to line up with the front sprocket.

As for the locknuts. Using the 250r carrier with stock EX axle. All the 250r locknuts didnt work. Stock EX did work.

Using the stock 250r hub/rotor. All the 250r locknuts didnt work. Stock EX did work.

And using the 250r Durablue anti-fade setup on the 250r carrier worked also.

Using the 250r Durablue axle, all the 250r locknuts worked. Stock EX didnt. 250r Durablue anti-fade worked as well.

Thanks for the all the help. This will be very useful to anyone who wants to try a 250r axle swap.

You can also use a 450r locknut or antifade on the 250r axle in the ex.I have a 250r Rpm axle,250r hubs,450r Lsr antifade, and stock carrier.

Well thanks for the help, finally got my stock 250r locknut in the mail today and everything bolted up perfectly. Replaced the carrier bolts and now she's ready to ride. The nut is near the end of its adjustment but it should work. There's lots of used aftermarket 250r parts around so this is helpful to anyone on a budget.
