That carb works great with a stock engine and with a bored engine. I got mine when it was stock and it got 30.8 hp dyno compared to 28 without it. It added more power than my exhaust system did. I now have a 440 and got the new 440 edelbrock carb, which adds more hp than the fcr39, not to mention it is jetless and needs no adjustments for altitude changes and is made of billet aluminum for that trick look. I recomenned edelbrock over every other carb on the market.

I plan on getting either a 416 or a 440 kit. Do you have to get a 440 sized card or is it universal

it is universal, you can put the 440 carb on a stock engine, but that won't work to good, should work fine on a 416 or 426. The regular edelbrock works great on all engines including the 440. I had the regular one on my 440 for a while. I just went to the 440 carb a few months ago and it probably added 1 hp over the standard edelbock. The difference between the two carbs is the 440 is a 38 mm bore and has a larger bowl and larger pumper, the standard is a 36mm x 38 mm oval with smaller pupm and smaller bowl.

I love my 39FCR! Hated my Edelbrock! I could never get it right. In my eyes, the FCR is superior!!
