Change you oil every one to two rides and keep your air filter clean and oiled. Get yourself a service manual and read up there is alot of good info in there.

Is your motor built or stock? How much compression? All of these factors come into play on how frequent you will have to check tolerances. If you have a stock motor the manual is probably a good place to start.

well im rebuilding my motor and thinking about putting a 12.5:1 comp piston in it and wanted to know how much more work i would need to do on it more often.

For my race bike:
I throw a piston in every 20 hours-JE
Rebuild shocks every 15-20 hours-PEP
I check valves every 10 and replace them every 30 or if they are stretched, whichever comes first-Kibblewhites
I throw a crank in every 30 along with bearings.-Hot Rods
When i do a crank i usually end up replacing 3rd gear and check the rest of the transmission

I change my oil every two practice days and before every race.

Clean my filter every ride.
I race Pro/am and Pro at the local races

Hope this helps.

I think it also depends on ride style and terrain say my xc race bike i check the valves begining middle and end of season i check all bearing for play or worn out parts at everytime i wash the quad witch is just about every ride, my mx bike i check valves and change piston and rings more often. because mx is alot tougher on the valve train, because of being wide open more
