Hi all, I am looking to trade my 08 Raptor 250 for a 2004 TRX450. I have heard many problems with the bottom end bearings on these machines. The quad has a little over 1000 miles and seems to be good. The price is killer though. I'm just looking for advice as to weather I should get a 2004 model. Is there anyway I can prevent problems if I get the quad or change the bearings.

Any year has it's problems. Just got to pick your poison.

If you get it grab a service manual and split the cases, replace all the bearings(Main and crank bearings if nothing else) and get the updated 04'05 crank, this is preventive maintenance and one of the most common problems on the 04,05 models (crank). Just get to know your bike inside and out and you will love your 04 trx...I'm sure others have some good advice too.

The ones that had the crank bearing problem blew with low hours. If its been around this long its probably not one of the ones that got the crap bearings.

My 04 is down for its first overall. It has had the crap ran out of it for 8 years, finally lost some compression so I am rebuilding. The key is to change oil both engine and tranny plus the filter religiously. Like every 6 to 8 hard rides. More than that if your on the track or in dusting conditions. Keep that air cleaner clean also.
