Dune season is coming up fast and I'm trying to find a way to add temporary lights for the night rides.

i know their are companys that offer lighting kits for the 450 bikes. Im sure its a stator and full wiring swao but if you have a need for lights and prefer a hybrid it would be nice to have a nice clean look

So far ive got 2 options, one is I buy a factory wr426 flywheel and stator and run normal lights. The other is to run some led lights and batteries as a total loss system. I only need the lights to run for around 3 hours at a time.

Ditch the stock headlights, or just un plug them.

go to a walmart and buys some of the small blue fog lights, unfortunatly you can only use one but the one will light up better then the stock headlights ever did!

Its a WIDE beam and is great for night riding, you could also use a 12v corless drill battery with some small lights for a back up.

As of right now i dont have any lights on the bike, before the motor swap i was running some 5inch flood lights mounted under the fenders. The new dirt bike motor does not have a stator powerful enough to run anything but the ignition. So im trying to come up with a setup that would last a minimum of 3 hours continuously, even if i had to carry some spair battery packs. Keep in mind this is my race bike and im not one to ****** things together.

technology has come so far with lithium batterys and **** im sure you could find a nice bright led light with a rechargable lithium ion battery pack and just put it on for the night rides since it is a race bike you dont want to permanatley add light fixtures and wires and all that bullshti

I seen trailtech has some batteries that they say can power a 30w light for 3 hours. but they are not what I would call cheap. so Im wondering how long they would power a rigid 6 inch led light bar. the bad thing after I buy the light and 2 batteries Im in over 700. so i'm still looking for a cheaper alternative, or I might just fix up my old yami blaster and ride it at night. but Id rather not put the old girl through the stresses of sand.

Get a stater only few hundred bucks.

What I did: The 400ex battery and batter box mount perfect under the front plastic. 2 holes are in a cross bar the lead to the front shock mounds under the front plastic, you drill 2 holes in the battery box and screw it in place to the frame holes and then put the battery in it. Fits just perfect. Or could keep the battery in the normal spot side frame or air box. I liked my spot.

Any leads on a good stator thats not going to break the bank. I have a dune trip in a couple of days so im proubly going to run bicycle lights this time

It's been years I used to be sharp on this stuff but I forgot places, I remember to make a yz426 able to have lights was just a few $100 bucks. It's worth it if your a night rider. The WR factory parts is my best guess to get.

If you look in my front bumper I had a normal 50watt car head light hooked up behind the DG logo.

Look right in front of the top tip of the air scoop under the plastic you see the silver box its the battery location (painted it sliver to match better).

I found a battery store that also sells LED lights.

Im toying with the idea of some super small, super bright LEDs that can run off a RC car Nicad battery or similar.

As long as it lights up for about 2 hours on a charge they would be great, espeacially if you had a quick 15min charger that you can hook up to a friends atv battery:D

that would be perfect, I was looking at some of the rigid led lights, but i'm not sure how long they would last on a charge

Well i got back from the dunes, I took some lights from a local bike shop, Serfas True 500+ Headlight. The shop said they were bright. I took 2 of them. I have to say they are way brighter than the aftermarket high beams on a buddy's kfx400. These lights lasted over 2 hours on "overdrive" but even on the lowest setting they were bright enough for me to do some high speed trails. ill snap some pics on my next night ride.
