Been thinking about getting a GT Thunder MX rear link for the EX (or the cheaper eBay version), but I don't have an aftermarket shock. The rear has been rebuilt by Carver but not for this setup. My question is will the link work with the stock shock or will it have issues with bottoming. Anyone with experience with this I would appreciate the help. I really dont feel like spending $350 to send everything in to GT Thunder so maybe I'll just cancel this idea and focus on getting the frame gusseted.

ok after doing some research on the 450r forum I found out that it's not a good idea to just buy the link by itself...

its can be done, Butt wont make a huge difference I don't think, also a gusset kit wont do anything really. the only reason you need a gusset kit is if your hitting huge jumps and abusing that bike too the extreme. id focus on more important things.

Member CJM on here tried doing that and ended up sending his rear stocker to another member on here to have it re-valved for his weight, riding style and the link. He had major issues with it bottoming out even when he had the preload cranked way down.

What do you weigh? Is the spring on the shock still stock, or was it changed when it was rebuilt?

The spring is stock and I definitely weigh more than what it is probably set up for (215 with gear).

YEa, dont run it without redoing the shock. Once hard bump or a small jump and there goes your exhaust or worse.
