Hey guys I might be buying a 250r in two weeks I'm keeping my 440ex cause I love the 400 everybody wants me to sell so I'ma just have 2 bikes but what y'all think about the 250r? The guy wants 2000 it looks brand new the motor is out the frame but needs to be put together what y'all think?

A 400ex frame with a cr250r motor is AMAZING.

A TRX250r is pretty cool.

But if you wanna go 2 stroke, unless you want to spend $1000 to make a trx250r as fast as a cr250r motor, then I would go for the cr hybrid instead.

Just my opinion, tho I do own a cr250r 400ex hybrid.

I would only buy a 250r if I wanted the ability to say I own a 100% stock 100% rebuilt trx250r.

A cr250 hybrid MX built 400ex frame would own the MX track.

Again, just my opinion.

Engine being out of the frame .. is it a complete running engine that just needs a few things to be put in or is it a basket case engine?

Also, $2000 imo is WAY to much for an R that you can't ride.

I snagged a nice one for $800, put about $1,000 into it and I still think I paid to much for it.

I have a pumped up 4-stroke motor in a 250R frame with aftermarket a-arms, axle, swingarm, shocks, steering stem etc... and my 400EX with just 450R front shocks handles just about as well for fast trail riding. It is really close.

I personally think the appeal of owning a 250R is related to the nostalgia or coolness of such a historic machine. I have owned 3 different 250R's back in the day and they are still great machines but with parts availability and age of the machine I wouldn't buy one now if I was starting over and if it wasn't for nostalgic reasons. For $2,000 plus the money to get it running right you could have a much newer machine. If you want one for the "coolness" factor then have at it.

Yea engine is running but he messed up second gear and be bought all new gears but it's got to be installed I talked him down to 1800 but be gotta go lower than that
