Ive been in and out of racing for awhile wanting to get back in . Ive got a Honda trx 250r that I just got done builingfor trails and xc but I think I wanna trade it off for a suzuki LTR 450 . My question is how do they handle tight woods and hills? If I do end up getting rid of my 250r ill try to find a ltr that hassome mods of course but I was just wondering how they perform stock wise in the woods.

First off, like most would say... Only get rid of the 250R if you absolutely have to! With that said, I've had my LTR450 for over 6 years now, done mostly trail riding and love it! It is wide though, at 49". As for power and hill-climbs, it's great. With FI and Ti valves it revs like a 2-stroke, with 4-stroke power. Only things I have done to mine are the Cherry Bomb, which is just a plug in resistor that accesses a built in richer fuel map, and raises RPM rev limit 1k to about 11k rpm. I also put on an HMF slip-on, which makes it rev a little quicker and gives a little better power on the low end. IMO a full system exhaust is only necessary if you do engine work. I also added a Pro-Design air intake, and replaced the swirl filter with an inline fuel filter. The swirl filter is under the gas tank and has been known to cause problems. Full skid protection, with a PRM swinger skid, nerf bars. Lastly if you race it, get a Pingel kill switch, which is best for FI engines. Well, that was a long post! LOL! In short, you will love it! I have an LT250R with a LOT or work and money into it. My LTR450 is the first 4-stroke quad that's made the LT250 sit!

Love my ltr, have it setup for woods now, its a great woods quad. it is about 4 inches wider than most quads, but its surprising what you can fit through, that you would think is not possible. i ride with my cousin who has a 400ex and he hasnt gone through anything i couldnt fit

and i say hold on to the 250r if possible. i understand if you need the money for the ltr, then do what you gotta do, but they are just so hard to find.

ive wanted a 250r forever, build it for xc. would be sick. but finding one that's not a piece of crap, building and dishing out the cash for the parts has always kept me from building one.

Thanks for the replies. Ive thought about it Ive always wanted one and finally got the chance to build one and I like it but I also like the thought of having something newer. You hardly ever see a xc 250r though. I like that the ltr is EFI and parts are easier to find for them. Theres alot of stuff i wish I could find for my 250 but none of the companies make for outdated machines. I dunno I guess im in limbo unless I see a ltr I like. Haven't really seen alot of ltr's that are setup for xc.

ya they are mostly used by the mx guys. but they are great trail quads. tons of power, great handling. and the width isnt a problem unless your running super tight trails.

heres a pic of mine, setup for woods

Ive done some trail riding with mine and even on the 18" tires and 20" fronts its still fun as all get out on the trails. Thinking of picking up some 20" rears and 21" fronts so I can get a little more ground clearance and have a thicker side wall tire. This isnt my first 4 stroke quad but i had a 250r also and this thing is a totally different animal than the 250r. Now dont get me wrong I LOVED my 250r and would love and plan on having another one day.

the bigger tires will lug it down some, a 13 sprocket will help, but its still a little less snappy.

but i got the 6 ply rzr 2's, and hipers. im sure with a lighter tire/wheel setup it wouldnt be as noticable

What does a stock ltr's front end measure width wise? What is the width of the rear end?

Same width as my ktm I hate how it handles in tight trails
