First off, I know this has been talked about a lot. I was wondering what I should do as far as length on my ex to race mx this spring. I've already got a +4 rear axle and I'm planning on getting +2 a arms. I was just wondering if I should get +2+1 a arms with a +1 swing arm. I am also planning on getting new Rims to get as close to 50 inches wide as possible. Let me know what you think.

the +2+1 a arms are a must to widen it but you really dont need the +1 swinger unless your racing nationals or alot of out door events
faircross, and small to mid sized tracks really dont need it

I know the arms are a must. I just don't know if I should go with +1 on them if I'm gonna do the swinger I Probly would do the +2 +1. But if I was to go with just +2 I would keep the stock swing arm

I went plus 2" a arms, with a wider lonestar axle.....a few yrs later I went with a Lonestar 1.25" swinger, and had the rear shock re-done which is a must for a longer swinger. Had a goldvalve put in and the builder said the stock spring was strong enough so that saved some money. Putting that swinger on was such a improvement that if I got a stock 400EX and did a build on it the first thing I would order is a 1.25" swinger from Lonestar. I have 2 EX, everytime I get on a stock swinger EX its just feels all wrong.

Get a +1 swinger not a 2"....have the shock revalved for the extra extension and you will love it.

Does it make it out of balance at all when your jumping if you go 1 back withot going 1 toward too?

No....it jumps perfect. No need to go forward.

if you think about the frame/suspension geometry then go +2 wide on the front and +2 or +4 on the axle for better performance.

Its wise to add the same to the rear of the quad for a more balanced ride/landing.

The reason why 400ex bucks around so much is the spring is stiff and the swinger is to short, you could add rideability just by using a +1 or +2 swingarm.

I wouldnt go over +2 for any MX or woods type racing, negative length swingarms are for flat track/ice racing.

if you want you could always go with +2 arms that are +1 to the front and a +1 swingarm or a 450r swingarm would be the best option for MX style racing.

That's what I was wondering I'm set on the width. I was just wondering about length if I should do +1 forward and +1 back or just +1 back

+1 forward cause cause a steering bind. and Its not as notice able as +1 rear where all your power hooks up.

So are you saying to do +1 forward on a arms and +1 on swingarm

Im saying +1 forward and a +1 swinger like a 450r swinger.

I believe boneless is saying that +1 forward on aarms might cause a bind in steering and that +1 out the back is a better option and more noticeable performance wise.
