i was putting a #42 pilot jet in a '08 400 so i figured i would see what notch the clip was in the needle an it has no notch, only one so is it worth looking into another needle that has multiple slots or is the stock needle ok. we are about 250' above sea level around home but do go to hatfield once in a while. uni, outers lid, 160 main, big gun slip on pipe, 6* key. he doesn't race, except with the local kids. thanks

Its worth changing to an adjustable needled from the 99-04 400 as well as installing a regular air/fuel screw and not the D head one that it has.

More adjust-ability.

when i get one from an older bike what notch from top do i put the clip in? does it need to be changed from winter to summer? i have a motion pro 90* tool for adjusting d shaped or slotted mixture screws so that isn't a problem.

3rd notch from the top (flatend). Depending on your tune you can adjust it for the season if need be, needle is for fine tuning.

the 3rd clip position on a 99-04 needle puts the needle at the same height as the 05-08 stock needle. so i put the 04 needle in the 3rd position so i can have adjustment either way.
