I have a 2001 Walsh YZ chassis that currently has a YZ400 motor. I bought the quad with this motor in it, but was wondering if I could put a yz426 motor or yz450 motor in this frame also??

Or are these frames made to only use one specific yz motor?

Not looking to do any fabricating to the frame!

I'm no expert but i can almost bet that replacing the motor will require different motor mounts. Fabrication won't be as tough as ya think.

yz426 is interchangable, yz450 has a different bottom motor mount that is off by 1/4"

Where did you get the quad from? What shocks and front end is on it?

I would just change the mount. Its the lower mount that is just slightly different its a very easy mod. Walsh could do it for you if that would make your more comfortable but there are many others that could also. laeger400 would be a good bet. yz426 will fit but you also have to deal with the fact that the newest one is an 02 thats an 11 year old motor, and it doesn't have a good following like a 250r motor so it doesn't really stand the test of time. The later yz mounts are the same through 09 so lots of motors available.

You will need to modify/make a new headstay for the yz450 motor also along with the lower mounts.

If you need someone to do fab work - call mike at HREatv. He's in middletown so a little ways, but not ridiculously far and he does great work, can make anything work.
