Alright guys, I'm going to PC my 450 Walsh swinger another color to match the rest of the quad. I'm wanting your guys opinion on color. I'm either doing red or black, leaning more toward black right now. Here's a few pics from different angles. Help me decide guys. I'm taking it to the PCer Wednesday. I'm really wanting black but I think everything like the linkage will get lost if I do the whole swinger in black, but then it'd be alot of red since the sub-frame is right there with alot of red. Idk.

Man i dont wanna be a dee eye see kay...but i think you'd be crazy to even change it. I personally think the gold looks sick and breaks up the monotany of your bike. My .02$

Dont do black, block shows every speck of dirt and grime. id say keep it read or do textured black maybe?

I've got black on the 400 and it's not bad. I don't think I want to do textured because it wouldn't match anything else. I was thinking of not touching it but I like everything to match, not a big fan of having random colors that make it look different. I may do black, then red caliper and red linkage. It'd also match the black a-arms, black grab bar and black bumper. Then I'll try and do as much chrome or red small things as I can to offset it.

It does somewhat match it now honestly. The new chain and the preload threads on your elkas. Maybe add a few gold pieces here and there. Think about it.

CJM is right though, black is horrible to take care of. And a swinder is probably the hardest place to keep looking clean on a bike.

My 400 is PC gloss black. The only way to get it nice and clean is to hand scrub it. Pressure washer leaves dirt behind no matter what.

Figured I'd bump this since I got it done and back together. It was a pita to get the swinger jammed between the engine and the frame but I manged to squeeze it in there using Marc's idea of using a bottle jack. I spread them just a pinch and then beat it in with a mallet, lol. Anyway the reat of it went pretty smooth, had to take the chain slider off when I was putting it in because it was hanging up on the bottle jack and it was a pain getting it wedged back in place even with the sprocket and chain roller off. I also got a Walsh swinger bolt to replace the stocker, didn't really need it but the stock one was beat up so I figured what the heck, coated it in anti-seize and slapped it in there.

Also I'm not sure if any of you guys would know this but do any of you guys know if there is some kind of spacer or something that goes in the left side of the bolt hole for where the linkage bolts to the swinger? There is that tube on each side of the linkage that a bolt slides through and on the right side there is a piece welded to the end by the linkage that holds the nut but the bolt side doesn't have anything, so it has a small amount of up and down play when the weight comes off the shock. Wouldn't that eventually snap the bolt in half since all the weight of the quad is riding on the head of the bolt on the left side? Sorry if it's hard to understand but I can circle it in the pic if you need me to. I'm gunna call Nate tomorrow and see what he says.

Alright well I called Nate and he said that there is a bushing that's supposed to slide in there and get bolted in. I must have either lost mine or it didn't have one and I just didn't notice it. He said that a few guys have had the same problem and one guy even rode on it like that. Anyway he said it's only $5 or $10 and he'd get one sent my way today.

I'm planning on getting a Walsh front end some time in the distant future, so I'll prolly get it done then. If I get bored I may take them apart and have them done locally but otherwise it may be awhile, but that's what I was planning on doing. Thanks for the comments guys! And thanks trx, that's our little 8420, it may look big in the pic but our 9320 makes it look like an ant. Both are fun to drive though, lol.
