threw my 310 top end on today and got her fired up.
i knew my carb would be off to start with but i wont be riding it for a couple more days any ways so i can go ahead and heat cycle it a few times.
for now im using the oem carb
my current jetting is way way off it ran great on my stock bore.
im looking for a starting point for the stocker
im in east tennessee not sure on elevation here.

no one just looking for a starting point///
it has a 38 pilot 150 main dgj needle
thinking about 45 pilot or 48 and 165/170/175/180 to start with

I would start with a 52-55 pj, dej needle, and a 180-185 main. 70 degrees out or warmer. Both tempurature and elevation matter.

Goober,

I also live in East Tennessee and run a 310 kit. I'm running a 38 A/S and I have been running 50 pilot and 175 main. If I remember correctly, the stock carb needed 48 pilot 165 main for stock cylinder. I would try a 50-52 pilot and a 180-185 main. That should start you out fairly rich. Once you get the cylinder broke in, then you can drop down from there. You may foul a few plugs, but atleast the cylinder is safe.

i dropped a 50 pilot and 180 main in it today still on stock needle
0 to 1/4 throttle is 100% better but from 1/4 up its just gurguling getting plenty of smoke out of it but it wont even think about clearing out it is much improved over the 150 that was in it with the stock cylinder
im not sure if i need to go richer or leaner
i did buy a 38 pwk a/s last nite off ebay but i still want to get this one right as well and see which one i like the best feels like it will be a tq monster with the 34mm carb
as i said 1/4 and up cutting out like a rev limiter
all electronics are fine as i rode it before removing the top end sunday morning.

Try stepping down the main jet and see how it does. Use fresh plug to ensure it isn't fouled. A 34mm carb will pull more fuel through the same size jets, due higher velocity/signal, than a 38.

Your needle is kicking in at 1/4 throttle and up. You probably need a different needle.I run the DGH needle in both carbs including my 38 A/S. It seems to run very good in this area. I have never tried it but heard the CEL needle works well also. Keep in mind that you need to run a tank or two of fuel through the new cylinder before the jetting and smoking issues will be very consistent with one another. You could probably safely drop down a main jet or two and be just fine. Atleast now you know that 180 is too rich. Drop down a main jet and keep an eye on your plug color. And I wouldn't worry about doing any plug chops or getting your jetting perfect until you get the cylinder fully broke in.

i droped to a 175 same 170 same 165 started to run a little better but not much so i am unsure where to go my 38 will be here tomorrow according to ups so i will just start over with it start with 50 pj and 180 mj unless it has a bigger pilot the 50 is the largest i have until i get my order in friday.
i know im going to have to mod the air boot via boiling it
what about my intake boot im running a boyseen rad valve with the rubber boot clamped to it then the carb i think it will fit in there as it is pretty pliable[soft rubber].
also will have to figure out a throttle cable but i have a bunch off diffrent bikes so that shouldnt be an issue.

Are you running a Stock Airbox with the LID removed ?

What are you running for FUEL / OIL ?

Is your Filter clean ? Oiled ?

What Plug are you running ? Gap ?

What clip position is in the needle ? Count from the TOP

When I had my 310 I was running a 55 pilot, DGM needle - 3rd clip, 6.0 Slide and a 178 main!

32:1 - 94 octane & Yamalube 2R

Plug came out Chocolate brown to tan

br8es now gaped to .018
motul 710 fully synthetic
no lid
filter new oiled with prefilter
boysen rad valve
installed 38mm quad vent a/s today went on fairly easy
52 pilot 175 main
top end is fresh only about 1 hour on it heat cycling it
fired up runs great jetting is close
think i need a 55 pilot and a 172/170 main
had to turn the a/f screw in about all the way to get an idle and its very very crisp off the bottom even after ideling a few minutes
the carb has the #7 slide unsure about the needle it was not readable.
now the kicker
i think the plug gap was causing a missfire iy was at .035
and with 215 pounds of compression i dont think it was fireing correctly.
bike is going to be strong im pleased with the 310 and 38mm carb
may need a diffrent pipe i still dont like the pt type 6 im running.
