I tried to use a 400ex oil tank but it was too wide....then I got a Suzuki z400 tank....it fit's really well....just need some clearance from the tie-rod ends on the steering stem & raise the rad....then re-fab some oil lines & I think I'm golden!

:D

I like it. I'm going to be building my own aluminum tank pretty soon, in the same location. Right now, mine's in the back of my airbox which I do not recommend at all

Also, is that your rear brake setup on the lower right frame rail?

Hey Tayyo789, The Z400 tank is Aluminum....I thought it was steel till i shaved down an edge to clear the tie-rods. Yes! That is my rear brake.....I couldn't mount it behind the footpeg as the kickstarter would hit it.....It works really good in that location.

Off topic, but what gas tank do you run?

I'm using a 400ex gas tank....the frame is a custom Narrow front.....so I can't use the 400ex Oil Tank like I wanted ....and now I have a buddy that want's to fab up a custom tank!! :D

DS450 Intake tube - Edelbrock Carb - custom air-box....You can see how little clearance I have behind the footpeg for a rear brake assembly.....so I went in front...

My frame is stock, I ended up heating and molding my IMS tank to clear everything. I was just curious because in the future I'm planning on building an aluminum tank for both fuel and oil

I just had a Support made to raise the tank the needed amount to clear the motor....everything else worked fine.....I'll post pics of the tank as it's being fabbed up!

Tayyo789, Is your's based on a 400ex ? or 450R ?

It was an EX frame. I tried to keep the plastics in as close of a position as stock, so I was weary of raising the tank. Trying to keep the bike looking factory was what caused so many of my problems

I am thinking about building one of these. Also did anybody ever try a yfz450 gastank?

I've been making some awesome progress with my Hybrid....all thanks to my buddy Adam who fabbed me up a custom Oil tank, re-wired my harness, added some needed tabs, welding here & there, etc,etc....It's finally the way I wanted it......I'll take some pics of the enhancements and the rear brake setup for all to see. Especially the NEW Custom Oil tank.

Well....after a bit of cutting up some cardboard to make a template.....then some 16ga steel....some AN-6 fittings and hose....and a TON of help from my buddy Adam... :) This is what we cam up with.....it holds just over 2-1/2 litres of OIL and has easy to fill location and a drain in the bottom....We utilized a piece of tube to allow the front engine hanger bolt to pass through....and tabs on the top to mount to the front of the Engine.....it seems to work perfectly!!! One a ride test is complete we'll know for sure!
