grease fitting on stock rear axle bearing carrier

has anyone tapped a grease fitting into a stock rear carrier? is it possible?

It can be done. But you would probably just as well off by removing the bearing covers and packing them will good quality grease, and reinstalling the covers. You would be surprise how little grease will be in a bearing from the factory. If you do decide to add the zerk, be sure to remove the inner covers of the bearings so that grease will get where it matters.
