This is about the best bang for your buck: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-NEW-REAR-AXLE-BEARING-CARRIER-HONDA-TRX400EX-400EX-400-ex-/360493110030?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53ef10530e&vxp=mtr

$90 and it's billet aluminum with double row bearings and a grease zerk to keep it lubed.

EDIT: I guess if you want the best you can get then a tapered carrier is the way to go (Like I recently installed). I figured you wanted something built to last but didn't break the bank.

A tapered carrier is the absolute best you can get. Its going to cost you, but its worth it. Ive had mine around 8 years with no problems.

RAD and RPM are the best 2 that I know of that sell tapered carriers.

on a tapered bearing carrier do you use the same torque specs on the axle nuts

EDIT: On the paper I got with my RAD carrier it said to tighten them hand tight to were there is zero free play then back it off 1/8 turn. It says a little bit of free play is better than none because if you over tighten the lock nuts it will cause excessive stress and wear on the bearings and it will severely shorten the life of them.
