I am ready to finally start putting parts on my bare 87 frame. The a-arms that I bought used needed new boots. I have new boots from Lonestar but they look different from the old ones. The new ones came with a snap ring and also a metal circle ring. Now on the old ones don't have anyhting but the boot? Nothing holding them on the ball joint. What am I missing if anything? Has anyone replaced these before or does everybody just buy new joints? Thanks in advance for the help.

I have replaced them, I'm pretty sure they use frapco or whatever that companies name is. My old ones had the rings on one set and another I don't think so, one set were LSR arms and the other were Burgard. The lower ring is a spiral ring and you just roll it on there and the upper smaller ring slides on when you put the boot on if I remember correctly. I think there is a groove for the lower ring to go in Lots of companies use the same ball joints, like I said I used the ones LSR sells on my Burgards.

there is two ball joints for most a-arms, 14mm wv tie-rod ends and 16mm ford contour tie-rod ends. Yes, Moog sells a special version of both that allows more movement than the car/light truck tie-rod ends.

My boots don't fit my balljoints right. Went to my local Carquest to get the ford contour tie rod ends. Those will not work they are female threads-mine are male threads. Really don't want to give LSR $120 if I don't have to. Seem overpriced imo. Anyone have a good place to get the 16mm balljoints for standard travel Lsr arms?

When in doubt....check here:

http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=484971

They show pics so you'll know what you're getting before you order them.

For a 16mm thread I use the ES3045RL - Geo Tracker
