I went with the oem ones through service honda. I remember reading somewhere on here about cr500 main bearings being a drop in upgrade. maybe someone can elaborate on that a little more

Honda OEM are just NTN or Koyo I think. I forget but I can check when I get home, I did mine a little while ago and have the old ones around somewhere. If the aftermarket use the same brand, it wouldn't matter OEM or not.

The CR500 OEM bearings are 8 ball, where as the TRX & CR250 are 7 ball.
The main bearing kit that Wiseco offers, are 8 ball bearings.
The Hot Rods kit I think are still 7 ball.

So, it was a 9 ball bearing.
We have a Motion Industries close by, I'll check them out.
Motion also has many sizes of o rings as well, regular & the high temp type like used on a lot of different engines.

Rocky mountain sells a main bearing kit. It has the 8 ball cr500 bearings in the set for the best price.
