Is the pre '05 400ex frame the same as '05 and up models???

Yeah, pretty sure.

I have a 07 motor on my quad, and it is an 02 frame so I think so.

frames never changed all years besides plastic mounts which is nbd

There are different mounting tabs on the 05 and up frames. Also, the CDI and electrical harness connectors mount differently on the 05 and up frames. It requires a separate mounting bracket to affix them to the frame.

The main frame geometry is the same though. I swapped in a 2006 frame into my 2000 400EX.
