Okay I'm buying a basket case, it has houser +2 aarms work dual rates with rezi, its the 86 chassy and swinger, now for a motor, it has a 86 stock crank with a ct 310 prox I'm not sure of porting, also has fmf fatty, v force 3s, LAPC piston, what should I exepct this quad to run and do, right now I ride a trx426ex with exhaust and a lot of motor mods, I'm rebuilding the 310 hole motor crank and everything, any advise would be good, tips, or anything. Thanks

What should you expect it to do? Beat your 400ex!

while its appart have it checked for porting and ported for you type of riding. they respond better to porting and pipe then just throwing CC's at it. but yes, it should RAPE the ex.

Just throwing a CT310 cylinder at a 250R doesn't mean it will stomp on every 400EX.

You might be surprised at the potential of the old 400EX. A friend of mine that rode for Curtis Sparks in the GNC Pro class back in the day had Curtis build him a 416EX for motocross after he sold his 250R. He said it was pretty damn fast.

I agree, they can be sleepers if built/ridden right.

Well the 250r has all different shocks, and a arms, I guess a different rear swinger too, so that should help more

Speed for speed, the 4 poke & 2 stroke are just about the same, if you think in terms or engine rpm & sprocket sizes.
Where the 4 poke plays its part, it is so much easier to ride & race than a 2 stroke, so the 4 pokes have put riders that normally would finish mid pack or in the rear to at least top 5 & maybe winning.
All that running up front NOW, comes with a price though, of spending big moneys trying to keep that engine together & running.
Some are realizing what is happening & some dont see it yet, the cost of that easy ride, but those that do are feeling it in their billfolds.

Riding a 4 poke is like street fighting & the 2 stroke is kunfoo, which is the easiest.

I think a 250R is assumed to be fast already. I say "sleeper" because a typical 400EX isn't assumed to be fast. I never really considered a 250R to be a sleeper, but maybe some do.

Good analogy Neil.

Second what Neil said, especially when you consider the newer 4-strokes because they're easier to extract horsepower, and they're shedding pounds as well.

45hp is easily achievable by either a 250r or a 450r, but in a race the 450r power delivery is so much easier to ride, and so much more forgiving. Suspension and peak horsepower being equal, the 4-stroke will beat the 2-stroke every day of the week.
