Exact oil measurement??

2 questions concerning oil in 400EX's. I was wondering if anyone knows the exact amount of oil used in a 400EX. I buy 3 quarts and I use 2 + a little more out of the thrid until the dip stick reads between the low and full lines. Second question can anyone explain the theroy behind the oil level check bolt\plug on the motor case by the oil lines? Does anyone use this? Any help would be great thanks.

I think the manual says 2.2 quarts, if you change the filter and do a complete drain of the engine.
