I don't know what you'd want for a subframe but I can tell you what is used by one of the industry leaders for a-arms.
Upper a-arms: 4130 tubing .120 wall.
I'd say that thickness would be overkill but may give you an idea...

.120 is way too heavy. Max you would be fine making braces out of .065. For someone my size if I was building an entire sub I would probably use .095.

yeah .095 wall is right in middle, gibson used .120 wall for everything and even know its 10 lbs heavyer i have never cracked anything in 12 years now. walsh and laeger and lonestart use the .060 wall and seem to not last more than couple seasons unless u got the desert chassis wich was more .120 wall. walsh only used chromoly on bottom tubes, i kinda lost some respect for them when i saw that. roll design were heavy as well. but they held up good. but its not going to hurt to go heavy i mean a sub frame your talkin maybe 1/4 pound heavier

okay sounds good i found they offer this size between .065 & .095. i think ill go with this. it runs about $6.50 a ft or i can get 6 ft for $28. much cheaper than an aftermarket subframe lol.

I'd recommend you go with the same but use square tube. Much easier to make cuts and mount things too.
