timeing chain and cam

Hi I have a 400ex and it was running then started to tick loud then all the sudden it stoped running so i took off the valve cover and I can spin the CAM and chain around freely and the CAM chain is not broke did the key on the crank break what happened please help

The chain could have been loose from the chain being wore out or the tensioner going bad and the chain might have slipped off the gear on the crank. Never really heard of it happening, but I guess it's possible. I'd take your clutch side cover off and look to be sure.
