I am looking for the best all-around tire, i live in New England and we get crazy winters, so i need them to be good in the snow then when the snow melts for Mud, and the dry season thru the woods and trails.

I have a set of good holeshots right now, but they don't like mud or snow even at 3PSI

Yeah, if you don't mind running 22 inch tires, teh all traks are a really good tire.

i dunno if i want to run 22's i have 20's now and they are ok but if i get a 20 inch tire that will move me thru snow i will have no need for 22's i want to try a cheap set of 22's before i buy 22's

I have GBC "Mudsharks". They are 21" or a little less. Standing beside my 20 inch Holeshot XCR's they are not really much taller. Only about 1/2 inch. They have a flat /wide profile.

Didn't want to get a 22" mud tire because of the loss in gearing and the increase in weight. The mudsharks are a good compromise. Have ridden them about a month in the snow and they do very well.

I know you have posted it before, but you got that pic of your bike with the Gators on it handy?. I may get something like that next year for the winter snow/mud.

hmmm - not the 250X I was think of... Those are 25"? - they look beefy, but they don't look that tall. Seems like the one I was thinkin of was white...

I've got some 22" realtors on Itp steel That I will sell cheap or a trade for some stock rear rims and some $$$. I just rode Sunday in the Franklin forest and they did awsome and the snow was deep.
They look like pladdles and are bi-directional for dirt or mud/snow. My uncle also runs them on his Craptor and he never gets stuck. I live in RI so if your interested we could meet so no shipping BS. Let me know.

Impala..the 2 tires are very similar. Here is what I found the difference.......

#1 - You can get BW's in 20". they are a tad shorter than the Mudshark. You may get a lower gearing. Could be good.

#2 - The Sharks have some cleats on the sidewall. They add some sidewall bite. Good for ruts.

#3 - The BW's are a little heavier than the Sharks.

Now Heavy D has the Gators..They would probly dig better cause they are more rounded than the flatter sharks or BW's. The cleats are also deeper on the gators. It's all in do you want complete hook up or some spin to rev? :)

i am not looking for a pure mud tire, but i need something that will be good all around, like when i get out of the mud and hit the trails.

do they make gators in 20's or 22's?

Impala - I thought I wanted a good "all around tire" just like you - I almost bought the sur-traks or all-traks. I ended up going with Kenda Knarlys - 22". Similar to the all-traks but with a six ply rating. They are actually 23"+ mounted! I can't tell you how bad I hated them. They hooked up GREAT, but it made the bike feel completely different, handled completely different and I couldn't slide. I can only compare them to stock, but the difference over stock was huge. I am now going with 20" razrs and I may get something like 22" blackwaters for the winter and mud and put them on my stock rims. If you think you really want a 22" "all around" tire, I will sell you my Knarlys - they only have two rides on them, maybe a total of four hours. I'll give them to you for $100 shipped, I think I paid $131 shipped. They are still like brand new, but don't say I didn't warn you about how different it will make your bike feel.

ok i will take your warning, and i think i will get the mudsharks in 21's hopefully they wont hurt riding to much....did you regear when you pu thte 22's on?

I would like to start off by saying first that those tires on that nice 250x have to be the biggest i have ever seen on a sport quad..lol. Prolly can ride a wheelie for ever. Secondly i have a set of realiters, they worked awsome in the snow this winter and i really think that they will be good for the spring mud races to. So thats my suggestion

DEEP MUD and SNOW:devil, still have the stock tires on the stock rims i can put on on nice summer days, but you wouldn't have the crazy speed you get going down a dirt road with those 25 inchers

got to be careful with those gators doing donuts once they get a good bite they'll flip ya, my quadsport's front end comes up a lot doing donuts on hard packed dirt and I do a wheelie right out of the donut, my brother was doing a donut with the quadsport on ice and must of caught something and he rolled it on its side and broke the clutch and compression lever and put stress cracks in the plastic

i got the 21'' mudsharks for a compromise, i did not want to regear, but wanted some more GC, and plus i still got my holeshots that i can switch back to whenever i want.
thanks for all the help even tho i still feel i man the wrong decision :(

I would go with maxxis sur trax. I have them on my 400 and they work awsome.i ride in mud sand and snow and some trails and they work great for everything. They are reverible to.

Impala400
03-18-2003, 02:25 PM
they only have them in 22's...you re-gear?

RuffRyder400ex
03-18-2003, 11:51 PM
I didnt re-gear i kept it the way it was. But i did feel a little less low end kick. So i probly will re-gear.

bmw500hp
03-19-2003, 12:35 AM
yep re-gear, go ahead and get your 14t, but run the 21's a bit before you intall it just to know what effects what.
