Hey guys ive installed tons of clip style master links before, but this D.I.D one is killing me. Usually the plate will take a little force to get over the pins but this one its like the holes in the plate r smaller than the pins. Are the DID ones different and require some sort of tool? I even had DID send me a new one as i thought the one i got was machines wrong, but its the same as well.

You just have to smash the x-rings a little. I usually use a really small c clamp or small vice grips to squeeze the link together and then install the clip.

Yea, I have to use a small c-clamp to get my plate on there enough to get the c clip on there.

C clamp or just drill it out ever so slightly. Never had one come off I drilled.

I believe CJM when he says he never had a problem with the master links that he drilled but it still scares me haha. I'll put what everyone else has said before and put them together, vise grip c clamps (ones without the swivel pads) fit perfectly between the two rivets on the link and makes popping those plates on super easy! Very handy at the track!

I tried vice trips, it's not because of the o-rings it won't go on at all lol. I'll try the c clamp vice grips

The holes in the link are smaller than the pins on the link. Thats why it wont go on.

I suppose if you were to get a c-clamp and really force it over you could do it. A chain press would also work well

i see, but its just weird that they are that much smaller. Ive always had to use some pliers to get the link on, but these are crazy. I don't see any advantage to them making the hole smaller as every other master link goes on with ease.

Its not just DID. I have 2 primary drive x ring chains (might be made by did idk for sure) that are the same way.

I think its the x ring chains for some reason.

I touch mine up with a chainsaw file just enough that they will go on a little easier.

I have had the two pins push back in the link too so make sure they are fully pulled through. I have to smash it together with some big channel locks then the clip goes on pretty easy. Pain in the butt, but that is the best chain available.

i use the master link tool sold by rmatv. its not expensive and works like it was designed to. all you need for master link installations.
