I am in the process of doing a rebuild and the only prob that I have is that I can't decide if I want to go +2 or +3 arms. I would like to get plus 3 standard travel. My question is for the guys running +3's did you notice any pushing in turns or bump steer? I have heard from some people that if they had it to do again they would get +2's.

Most people that get +3s do so only for long travel suspension. Also, they typically (not always) run rims that are inside offset (4-1 I think), so you get the benefit of the true long travel suspension, without getting too wide.

What is the normal wheel offset for +2 arms?

Who even makes +4 for a 400ex? Only thing I have ever heard of being +4 is the T-Pin, and I think Roll and Merrel might have +4 but not many...

Scratch that, where can U even find a +4 tie rod?n Besides +4 on a 400 ex would put you at 50" with out wheels! With wheels I think that would be way over the AMA limit of 50 and the limit in most racing organizations.

yeah i want merrel extreme a-arms and their +4. thats all they make besides +1 i think so i'm stuck with it. i love those arms tho and if their good enough for rath then their good enough for me! they are freakin sweet! check em out if you want a look. http://www.merrellextreme.com/products/aarms.html

jug, those are for long travel shocks arn't they? Do you need a special "narrow" frame to run them and keep them under the limit. I know at some races they have you drive through something that is 50" wide so that they can tell your width.

Personally I think +3 is overkill for a lot of people and I think on a long mx race i'd take the +2 over the +3 just because of how much faster it will wear you out. Not only that but running plus 3 and small tires pretty much restricts you to mx tracks period. Just with stock width and small tires I get hung up on rutts all the time and can't hill climb and if it was wider it would be a lot harder to ride in the trails.

well it all depends. Cause most aftermarket frames are alot more narrow and you can run the +4's.

i've got laeger +2's with 3+2 offset rims. But i really with i would have gotten +3's with 4+1 rims. I don't think it's overkill.

Actually, i wish i would have went with a long travel setup, BUT, to late now.

The only way your front end will "push" in corners is if your wheel off set is too much. The farther out the wheel is from your spindle the worse it will handle. I believe you can use +3 and stock (3+2) off set and be right around 49 3/4 inches. 3+2 and 4+1 off set wheels w/ +3's will be better than 2+3's or 1+4 wheels and +2's. Get it? Go w/ the +3's and 3+2's or 4+1's.

+3 too much? If that is so than why would most pro's use +3 with regular width frames and +4 with narrow frames. And how does it wear you down? I love my +3's. I think they let you relax more because you dont have to worry about getting out of shape in a corner, they handle much better in my opinion.

These are the merrell 250R a-arms, they didnt have the 400ex ones out when I got them. all you have to do is shave the bushings down a little bit and they work.. They are +3

Hello Guys:

I know there are a lot of places starting to sell +3 A-Arms, but to tell you the truth I think it is better for the marketing person than the rider. Here are a couple problems.

If you run +3 arms, you can only run 1 type of wheel. (at least if you want to be legal.)

The bigger problem is, if you run +3 arms, your quad will be almost as wide as it is long... That SUCKS in the whoops! You want your wheelbase to be a little longer than it is wide, and it will track much better, straight through the whoops. Whenever you get your quad as wide as it is long and you charge into the rough stuff, you will start to hop around, and a rider on a little narrower setup wil beat you every time.

For that reason I never push a wheelbase to a full 50" wide.

Talk to you later.

Does this mean you wont make standard travel +3 a-arms? I planned on using your frame in the future and wanted to have everything match in brand but i need +3 a-arms. Let me know if you will make them cause i need a set asap. THanks

Also do you have to have a special swingarm for the CRF frame or can i use and swingarm? Thanks

Hello:

There is nothing special about the CRF swingarm, and on the A-arms if you need them ASAP then I have to tell you that we're not close to releasing anything yet. We're still working on the ball joint, and it will be several weeks before I have any A-arms to go. I have to concentrate on the frames right now.

Talk to you later.

Foxrage,

Don't worry we have one set +3 left in MX style. They are bare now but we can powdercoat in almost any color.

Jnine,

Come on man we want to see those ball joints!!!
