It just blew for no reason? You didnt notice like signs of this, banging, noises, etc?

You sure you just didnt bust a u-joint?

nope not true and it turns out the 700r4 tranny would be to much of a pain to have instaled so i think ill go with monster transmissions heavy duty 4l60e with a low stall torque converter

especially a chevy.. Aren't their 12 bolt rear ends supposedly the best there is?

I mean, they have used the exact same rear end since like the 70's right?

Not all chevys use a 12 bolt rear, some use a 10 bolt, 12 bolt, some use 14 bolt and there a few variations with different ring and pinion gears which can make it stronger or weaker depending on what its got.

he probably has a 12 bolt tho. Perhaps the ring/pinion was worn out. Or his C clips coulda come undone.

Ford sterling axle is much stronger. No c-clips unless it was a semi floater axle and those arent all to common.

Oh alright.

I will be the first to tell you, I don't know much about cars and trucks. Never really messed with them lol.

if its a 4x4 you have to change the front ratio too

I'm betting it was 10 bolt. How many miles were on the truck? You say the tranny went too? At the same time?

Keep your eyes peeled for a 12 bolt or even a 6 lug 14 bolt. Chances are you can find a used one cheaper than you can rebuild yours, and find one with 3.73. Also, replace that driveshaft. A bent driveshaft is hell on bearings.
