Less discs means more back pressure, which translates to more torque(bottom end). More discs means more horsepower, which translates to more topend. So it comes down to where you want the power. Top or bottom?????

Well i ride trails the most, which there are a few good straight aways but a lot of hill climbs and mudd........ so what do u think would be best setup w/ the discs........ when u say torgue and horse power u mean power(torque) and speed(horsepower) right???

Go with 12 disks and you will be fine.

12 is a good compromise.

w/ less disks, 6 or 8 there is a tiny power decrease. Unless ur looking for a quit bike, i would leave all the disks on. It gives you the best power range and throttle response.

I only run 8 discs. I could feel just a tiny bit more bottom end that way.

Ive totally messed with mine and ive ran everywhere between 3 and 12. I liked 8 the best, it gave great power everywhere! Right now im just Jackass'n around and I have 3 rings without the spark arrestor, it sounds alot louder. But when I need the power again im going to go back to the 8. I would say just try it all out, like everyone else said, the less you have the quieter and more low end, the more rings the louder with more top end.

just fyi the rings will serve no purpose without the end cap actually the rings are the spark arrestor:bandit:

Does this same logic also apply to the FMF Mega Max 2. I would think it is probably the same for all disk style systems? I actually thought it was just the opposite - removing disk would free up the exhaust, giving more top end and more noise, but looks like I was wrong??

no same logic for all disc systems just think about it if you remove a disk your taking away a slot that the exhaust could go thru hence the less slots the harder it is for the exhaust to escape

Thanks UglyMotha, that does make sense - I guess I was think about the disk as resticting the exhaust - not as a channel for it to flow...

Man, ur only runnin 8 discs with a 416?? Ur chokin that thing, Put 18 disks on an ull feel power. I took off half of my discs once to quiet it down and it had no throttle response, bottom end or anything, it pretty much sucked.

Do you have the full system? Or at least some type of after market header? If so I would have to say keep the disc's around 8. But, if ur pipe is a slip on with the stock header, I would have to agree with steve-o. Go with more discs to make up for the restriction your stock header causes.
