The short bolt on the oil filter cover is stripped. Should I just helicoil it.thanks

Thats what i would do, OR tap and drill it for the next size over.

Get the same mm bolt, (I think its 7mm) but a quarter inch longer, cut the head off and repair the threads with a die. Use some locktite on it and thread it in using double nuts on the end, tighten it up and keep it in there like a stud and just remove the nut on that one when you replace your filter. Just thread it in a couple of threads further than the origonal bolt went in and you will be good to go.

i would helicoil it as well. trying to retap the aluminum works, but usually not for the long haul. I re tapped my oil drain plug and about 5 changes later the threads came right back out again. It's time for me to helicoil it now.

how hard was that? I need to do it to both bolts on mine.. lol. Tapping it worked for like 2 oil changes.

Not hard at all I just went to auto zone and bought the kit an it gives you step by step instruction the worst part is drilling the hole out.
